Over a dozen years ago, I gave thought to betting $1,000 on Bitcoin

after its price dropped from $17.50 to “pennies” apiece in the wake of the June 2011 hacking of Mt. Gox, a Japanese BTC exchange.

Since BTC then struck me as an easy-to-steal thought experiment useful for drug dealers, terrorists, and sellers of alpaca wool socks, I opted not to make the bet.
