Tommy Pham began this year as a fourth outfielder for the Mets, who were among the favorites to be in the World Series thanks to the expectations associated with the game’s highest payroll and a team coming off a 101-win season.
By May, he was playing every day as the Mets sputtered along and fell under .500 for good in early June. By July he was among several players out the door in a deadline purge when the Mets opted to concede what would become a 75-win season that ended five weeks ago with Buck Showalter disclosing he was not coming back to manage a third season.
