- Y Combinator accepted 282 startups for its coveted winter 2023 accelerator program.
- Several AI startup founders who participated said the program had many more in person events.
- And they also said it was a huge benefit and made a difference being in San Francisco.
For its winter 2023 cohort, Y Combinator accepted founders from 282 startups for its coveted startup accelerator program. And after three years of batches that were primarily remote-first, the recent winter batch had significantly more in-person elements than the last few cohorts — 86% of the batch was based where the program typically takes place at its headquarters in San Francisco, according to Y Combinator.
During the intense three month program, which ran from January through the first week of April, founders built out their core products, met regularly with their group partners, advisors and industry leaders, and accepted YC’s standard deal of venture funding to grow their businesses. Part of the program’s appeal is its exclusivity – out of the 20,000 startups that apply for each batch, only 1% to 2% are accepted.
