When Germany’s Alexander Zverev embraced Frances Tiafoe at the end of their third-round match at the French Open — comforting Tiafoe by placing his right hand on his head — it marked the exit of the last American man in Paris.
Zverev’s 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory ended at 12:19 a.m. Sunday Paris time and meant that no American man would reach the fourth round for the fourth time in five years and the sixth in eight, according to The Washington Post.
