A decision has been made about the host(s) of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The 48-team tournament will be held in Morocco, Spain and Portugal, although the first three matches will be hosted by Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina in a nod to the tournament’s hundred-year anniversary. This marks the first time football’s pinnacle event will be hosted across three continents and six countries.
The continued expansion of the World Cup is becoming a hallmark of Gianni Infantino’s reign as president of football’s governing body. In a statement released by FIFA, Infantino said “In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup.”
