Rome is a city notorious for political mind games and eternal battles. Transposed into the world of Italian football, this is the Derby della Capitale – Lazio versus Roma – a duel which ended months ago in a dressing room blowup between Lazio president Claudio Lotito and Roma boss José Mourinho.
Since then, not much has changed. The psychological warfare for Sunday’s rematch has already begun, with Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri declaring that his team had “gone to war” in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), alleging Roma’s UEFA Europa League (UEL) game against Slavia Prague to be a mere “friendly match.”
