As the well-earned tributes pour in for the late Tony Bennett, what struck me is how very current they all felt. These weren’t just lamentations over a 96-year-old legendary entertainer whose greatest moments occurred decades ago, but someone whose loss left us missing what else we might have been lucky enough to hear from him.
I’m not objective here, having been a Tony Bennett groupie for many years, previously writing about him in Forbes and even having a few tangential personal links. Tony Bennett was always true to who he was and yet was always growing. As such, his career provides more than a few very current lessons for media and media-adjacent businesses about what it means to innovate while retaining your authenticity.
